PCAGOE Monthly Challenge September

Filed under: beads,PCAGOE,polymer clay — by jencom @ 6:12 pm

PCAGOE has a monthly challenge and the theme for September is a color combination: purple, turquoise, mustard and one of the following white, black, gold or silver. At first I thought that was a crazy color-combo that I would never ever wear myself. Then I decided to try it out and started with a skinner-blen purple-white-turqoiuse with a hint of pearl. That turned out really yummy! Then what was I supposed to do with this skinner-blend!? I decided to try a shriver-cane. I have made quite a few attempt on them before but never really succeded. This one was very promising a long time 🙂 The skinner-plug was great, the triangular cane lovely and the un-reduced hexagon just as I wanted it. When I has reached that point I made a few bad decisions…

I started the reduction at once without letting the cane sit for a few hours – everybody KNOWS you are supposed to, but why should that apply to me!? Then I went a little trigger-happy and reduced it a bit too much and too fast so instead of a nicely shaped and crisp hexagon I ended up with a nicely roundish almost blurry hexagon-wannabe. The cane is nice to look at but it was not a picnic to try to make a sheet out of it. Try to make a seamless sheet with oval cane-slices 😉

As always when making Shriver-canes I made a lot of cane-ends and “scrap”. I never let anything go to waist so of course I made a log of the scrap-clay and covered with cane-end slices. Those beads turned out better than the cane. I think I may swirl them – not because I am addicted to swirling, but just because I can 🙂

If there is anyone out there that have missed the wonderful work af Sarah Shriver here’s some samples of her work. You can find more on her page.
